Like the Cova Tallada, the Torre del Gerro can be accessed from the end of Les Rotes, both on foot or by bike or motor vehicles. It is accessed by going up the Calle de la Vía Láctea, but instead of following the route to Cova Tallada, you have to follow the path to the top.
The tower offers incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea, a panoramic view of Dénia and Montgó, even on clear days, you can see Formentera and Ibiza. At night, thanks to the tower being away from the center, light pollution is no problem and the spectacle of celestial bodies is priceless (stars night rain dates 2019). If you are a photography lover, this is a place you cannot miss (Golden Hour Denia)
The Torre del Gerro has a height of almost 14 meters and belongs to the network of fortifications raised along the coast during the 16th century to monitor and prevent pirate attacks. The towers communicated with each other visually or through signs with mirrors, fire … The guards guarded and warned of any danger.
The tower consists of three levels and can be accessed to the top. It is advisable to go up with someone else from the second level because it is easier.
From here you can also start the route to Cova Tallada.
ACCESSIBILITY: Asphalt and gravel sections.
